I’m guessing that you are here because you’re interested in getting a boat or Jet Ski license on the Sunshine Coast? let me explain how easy it is to obtain, and how our boating licence courses work.
Your boat and Jet Ski license can be completed in one day. The training is split into two parts. First is the theory element, which can be done either in the classroom or online. Once this is done, we can then move on to the practical element.
The theory element of the jet ski or boating licence is made up of 4 units. They cover, Trip Planning, Navigation, Weather & Tides, and Safety. At the end of the theory there is a multi-choice assessment paper to complete and must be passed.
The practical element of the boating course will teach you a number of skills to master. You are also required to complete a practical assessment. As we only have small groups you are under no pressure. We can progress at your own pace.
If you wish to obtain a Jet Ski license as well, this can be completed on the same day. We cover this after you first complete your Boat License.
The Jet Ski license has two theory elements. There is an assessment paper to complete in regards to the theory. This is then also followed by the practical skills element. The practical skills also of course has an assessment to be completed.
Your day with me will be enjoyable and informative. I see it as your first step towards many fun days out on the water.
To obtain a Boat licence on the Sunshine Coast, you need to complete a course first. It’s official name is a, Recreational Marine Driving Licence (RMDL) and Jetski Licence, Personal Water Craft Licence (PWCL) in Queensland you must complete a proficiency course and you must have completed a Boat Licence before you can obtain a Jet Ski licence.
Both courses can be run together and are made up of two elements.

Once you have completed your multiple-choice exam and you have passed you will move onto the Practical training.
Practical training on the water is your opportunity to develop a number of skills while increasing your confidence. These are important skills every skipper needs to be able to master.
When we both feel you are competent (there is no time limit for this…) there is a practical assessment.
Don’t worry, if you need extra training this can be arranged.
So, just like a driving test, with the skills you have thoroughly mastered, you will be tested.
Now if you fail, don’t worry you have the opportunity for extra training and you will be able to retake your practical assessment on another day.
Upon successful completion of the theory and practical assessment, a certificate of competency will be issued and when presented to Queensland Transport Dept, along with Queensland Transport Fees your licence will be issued.

To get your jet ski licence on the Sunshine Coast, the theory training is again taken in the classroom or online. If taken at the same time as the Boat Licence course, then just one extra subject is covered. That is “Equipment and activity planning”. This is completed with a multiple-choice exam.
But if taken at a later date then a Navigation unit is covered as a refresher and with its own multiple-choice exam.
Practical Jet Ski training is conducted following the Boat practical session and once skills and confidence have been mastered and we both feel you are competent we can move on to your assessment test.
So, just like a driving test with the skills you have thoroughly mastered you will be tested.
Now if you fail, don’t worry you have the opportunity for extra training and you will be able to retake your practical assessment on another day.
